This is another distro that I tried and previously I get my hands on Linux Red Hat 9 and Knoppix.
Fedora Core 4 (FC4) is basically can run on two different GUI, GNOME and KDE, I highly prefered GNOME as it look more sleek and professional. I took initiative to download the ISO images of 4CDs at my office and burn it into 4CDs. Each ISO image size is around 650MB and in total 2.5 GB++ of file size for the whole FC4 installation.
Basically I am learning to use this new OS plus in the mean time I keep my Win XP Pro. Using GRUB, I can be able to boot my pc in two different OS. FC4 also can be run in command line environment just like Windows. At the first glance, there is no difference between FC4 and Windows but now I realised that FC4 not just a freeware OS but editable OS that can create another new distribution like Linspire, Suse, Mandrake and so on.
Below is the hardware requirement for FC4 installation:-
CPU
Minimum: Pentium-class — Fedora Core 4 is optimized for Pentium 4 CPUs, but also supports earlier CPUs (such as Pentium, Pentium Pro, Pentium II, Pentium III, and including AMD and VIA variants). This approach has been taken because Pentium-class optimizations actually result in reduced performance for non-Pentium-class processors, and Pentium 4 scheduling is sufficiently different (while making up the bulk of today's processors) to warrant this change.
Recommended for text-mode: 200 MHz Pentium-class or better
Recommended for graphical: 400 MHz Pentium II or better
AMD64 processors (both Athlon64 and Opteron)
Intel processors with Intel® Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel® EM64T)
